Caption Fridays Volume Seven...

Caption Fridays disappeared for a while because I sort of ran out of pictures.  I don't get to go to games now that I'm not based in Detroit, so my stash was running low.  Luckily, I got to go to a game when I was home for Thanksgiving, and our seats were perfectly positioned for me to get some good caption fodder shots.  This one is my favorite:

Caption Fridays (Er...Saturday) Volume Six...

Observant readers may have noticed that this is, in fact, not Friday.  We're just going to pretend that I didn't choose to work late, take a nap, and go to a Christmas party at the Magic Kingdom dressed as Mickey Redmond in drag instead of writing this post last night.

Last week we had an anonymous winner:

"Danny, this guy won't quit staring at me grinning, it's creepin' me out!"
"I know just don't make eye contact."

Caption Fridays Volume Five...

This week's winning caption comes from one of my favorites, Mr. Stabbityjones.

Stuart: "I warned you Abby. If you eat all of your Halloween candy in one sitting, you're going to get a tummy-ache."

Here's another picture from Sara Neuie to caption:

Caption Fridays Volume Four...

We had another anonymous winner this week.

"Hmmmm...I could do that move Pavel just did."

This week's picture to caption comes from Sara Neuie of A Neuie Perspective.  Caption away, and please do make sure to check out her other photography on her blog.

Caption Fridays Volume Three...

Someone named "Anonymous" (That's an odd name.  I think it might be French.) won this week's caption contest:

"Why do I always have to sit with the defensemen?"

There's also a hilarious, not family-friendly caption in the comments of the original post from another anonymous person.

Here's this week's picture.  Caption away!

Caption Fridays Volume Two...

Here's the lovely Sara Neuie's caption from last week:

Z: Ugh, shouldn't have eaten that last cheeseburger...
Cleary: Just aim away from my skates, k?
Kronner: Gross dude.

Here's this week's photo.  Caption away!

Caption Fridays Volume One...

Raise your hand if you're excited for the start of the Wings' season!  Everyone?  Ok, good; that's what I thought.  Now raise your hand if you're excited that last season's photo caption game has been moved to Fridays.  Nobody?  Nobody?  Bueller?  Ok, well, not quite what I was hoping for.  Anyway, here's the 2011-2012 season's first installment:

This one was taken during last year's pre-season.  What are the boys up to here?

"Helm, you've gotta slow down out there, you've warped your helmet."

Trivia Tuesdays: TimFill closed out the season with another victory.

This week's question: Which Red Wing is the oldest NHLer to record his first 100-point season? How old was he accomplished this?

The Answer: Gordie Howe was 41 when he tallied his 100th point on 3-30-1969. He finished the season with 103.

Caption Mondays Volume 23...

I've been saving this one for a while because it's one of my favorites.  What's going on in this shot from a December game?

Weekly Wrap-Up Volume Twenty-two...

Caption Mondays: Jeffy Neuie won for the second week in a row.

Ref: That's it! No more hockey until you clean this ice up!

Trivia Tuesdays: TimFill managed to continue his impressive trivia run.

This week's question: Who was the most recent Red Wings goalie to lead the league in regular season goals against average?

The Answer: Chris Osgood led the league with a 2.09 GAA in the 2007-08 season. That year, he and Dominik Hasek combined to win the Jennings Trophy. Prior to Ozzie, the last Wings goalie to lead the league in GAA was Terry Sawchuck. Pretty good company, eh?

The Answer: Buffalo selected Pierre Tugeon at the Joe on June 13, 1987.

Caption Mondays Volume 21...

I've been hanging onto this one for a while now.  What's going on in this picture of Darren McCarty goofing off at the alumni team's charity softball game last summer?

Weekly Wrap-Up Volume Twenty...

Caption Mondays: Sara Neuie took back the Caption Mondays title this week.

Hobo: Ugh, this whole hockey thing is hard work, no wonder my hair is always sweaty.
Rig: I wish Eaves wouldn't stand so close to me, he's distracting the girls from my prettiness.
Raffy: Pfffffb *pretends he has awesome hair like Rig and Hobo*

Trivia Tuesdays: TimFill also continued his trivia dominance.

This week's question: Which Red Wing has recorded the most career All Star Game points?

The Answer: Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe tallied 19 points in his 23 All Star Game appearances.

Weekly Wrap-Up Volume Nineteen...

Caption Mondays: TimFill scored a double win this week, nailing both the caption and the trivia.

Turns out Lightning fans don't strike the same section twice.

Trivia Tuesdays:

This week's question: The Wings were involved in the longest overtime game in NHL history. Who was their opponent? Who scored the game-winner that night?

The Answer: They played the Montreal Maroons on March 24, 1936. Mud Bruneteau scored to break a scoreless tie at 1:16:30 of OT.

Caption Mondays Volume 19...

In honor of the international contingent of Wings fans preparing to flock to the Joe this week, here's a picture of another group of Hockeytown's finest who brought their team spirit all the way to the wasteland that is Florida.  It's fun to play Where's Waldo with the Tampa fans.

Weekly Wrap-Up Volume Eighteen...

Caption Mondays: Friend of SSDD Sara Neuie was at it again this week.

Hank: ...and then Millsie totally Eavesed in front of everyone!
Stuart: Ha! I can't believed I missed that! Anything else happen while I was gone?
Hank: Well, there was this time Millsie...
Rig: *interrupting and nodding toward Drew* Uh, Hank...
Millsie: Not this story again...

Trivia Tuesdays: Clark got the answer again this week. I went a little off the reservation with the question, but it was sort of Wings-related.

This week's question: The NHL's all time leader in penalty minutes spent a small part of his career in Detroit. What was his name and how many minutes did he rack up?

The Answer: Tiger Williams (How glad are you that I didn't make a tiger blood joke there? It would've been so easy, too. It was practically teed up for me.) racked up 3,966 minutes in 962 games. That averages out to 4.12 minutes/game. If he would've served all of his penalties to completion, he would've spent 66.1 hours in the box (not to mention the fact that his teams would've had an unbelievable PK%). He was only a Wing for part of one season, but still managed to accumulate 158 penalty minutes in 55 games in Detroit.

Caption Mondays Volume 18...

Here's one I took during warm-ups before the game at Tampa Bay.  I was really excited to see Stuart making his return.

Weekly Wrap-Up Volume Seventeen...

Caption Mondays: The general consensus this week was that the gentlemen in the stands were checking out Henrik Zetterberg. In light of that, here are two sets of captions for your reading pleasure.

From Norm:
Linesman: "Hey 40, those guys behind the glass-are they checking you out too, or just me?"
Zetterberg: (silence)

From Sara Neuie:
Zebra: I just don't get it man... I'm not a bad-looking fella, I'm tall, I've got a job with authority, why can't I get a girl?
Hank (gnaws on mouthguard): I'm telling you, chicks dig beards. Especially Swedish chicks.
Zebra: Really? You think that'd work?
Hank: Well, whatever you do, don't go around making faces like the guys behind us...

Trivia Tuesdays: Clark beat TimFill to the punch this week. That'll teach you to read things, Tim.

This week's question: The Wings hold the record for most home overtime losses in a single playoff run. How many OT losses did they have? What year did they set this record?

The Answer: They set this record during the '02 Cup run with four home overtime losses. One was against Vancouver, two were against Colorado, and one was in the Finals against Carolina.
